Cray Kaiser Employee Spotlight: Aaron McWilliams

In Cray Kaiser’s Employee Spotlight series, we highlight a member of the CK team. We couldn’t be prouder of the team we’ve grown and we’re excited for you to get to know them. This month we’re shining our spotlight on Aaron McWilliams.

As an Assurance Senior, Aaron works on assurance engagements such as audits, reviews, and compilations. You will find him leading engagements out in the field at clients’ offices, but this has typically been virtual during the pandemic. One of his areas of expertise is nonprofit audits, which he spends much of his time on outside of tax season.

If Aaron was giving advice to someone just getting started in the accounting industry, he would tell him or her to ask a lot of questions and be eager to learn. He explains, “the job can get difficult at times, but accountants are ready to teach and learn within the everchanging world of audit and tax.”

Aaron received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting from Northern Illinois University. Prior to CK, he worked in both public accounting and on the industry side for about three years. While the experience he gained at his past jobs was invaluable, when he landed at CK he felt he found the perfect fit.

Aaron started working at CK nine years ago. He was drawn to the team atmosphere at the firm and liked that he would have the opportunity to work in many different areas of accounting, rather than sticking to one role. Aaron has stayed at CK because of the culture. He feels that everybody strives toward the same goal and takes pride in the work that they do. And, of course, he enjoys the annual CK golf outing! Not only does he love the game of golf, but he values the time he gets to spend with teammates as they compete and have fun.

When asked about his favorite CK core value, Aaron chose “Trust”. He said, “trust means the most to me because it is very important for your teammates and supervisors to trust you while working on engagements. It’s equally important for clients to trust you to get the work done. And finally, it’s important that you trust yourself while working to better both yourself and the firm as a whole.”

  • How do you like to spend your weekends and time off?
I like to just hang out with family and friends, go to movies, restaurants, etc. What I’d like to do most when tax season (and the pandemic!) is over, is go on a nice long vacation. We are planning a vacation to Hawaii, but the exact timeframe is still in the works.
  • What motto do you live by?
My motto is to just enjoy life, not stress over the small stuff, and laugh often.

  • Tell us about your family.
I was married in 2019 to my beautiful wife, Carol. In June of 2020 we welcomed Brooke into the world. She is starting off her life thinking wearing a mask is normal, which is weird!

  • What’s your favorite movie or tv show?
My favorite TV show is either The Sopranos or Breaking Bad. They’re 1a and 1b on my list, not sure which is which!
