Cray Kaiser Employee Spotlight: Dawn Nadle

In Cray Kaiser’s Employee Spotlight series, we highlight a member of the CK team. We couldn’t be more proud of the team we’ve grown and we’re excited for you to get to know them. This month we’re shining our spotlight on Dawn Nadle.

Dawn’s role as a Tax Senior at CK means that she prepares and reviews business, individual, and trust tax returns. She also co-leads the tax intern program, including hiring and training the interns every year. Leveraging the experience gained working at other firms, Dawn has also been using her time lately to assist in the implementation of new software for the tax department.

Dawn earned her Accounting degree from North Central College in Naperville, IL. After graduating, she went to work for one of the “Big Four” accounting firms but soon decided a smaller firm was a better fit. She eventually landed at CK, which she felt was the sweet spot when it came to size. Dawn’s advice to someone getting started in the industry is, “don’t be afraid to ask questions and take a lot of notes.” She feels that working as part of a team provides the opportunity to develop a particular skillset. And since tax laws are always changing, there is always more to learn.

Before CK, Dawn had previously worked for a smaller firm that was acquired by a larger organization. She missed her team and the “family feel” of working there. After speaking with her friend, Natalie McHugh, she knew CK had the environment she was searching for.  She appreciates that CK team members have the ability to work on a variety of projects and with a variety of clients. Dawn feels that she always has someone to bounce ideas and questions off of and that she can get involved in other areas of the firm that interest her.

When asked about her favorite CK core value, Dawn chose “Education”. She said, “CK encourages all staff to continue learning and sharing what they have learned with others and the partners are always willing to share their knowledge on complex issues. Plus, the most rewarding part of my job is training and working with our tax interns. I love to watch them develop over the course of a few months.”

  • What was your favorite CK group outing from the last year?
The golf outing because I love golfing and the outdoors. It gives us a chance to be competitive and spend time with others from different departments that we don’t typically work with.
  • How do you like to spend your weekends?
My weekends are always spent with family and friends. I love spending time on my boat and taking as many trips as I can, even if it’s only for two days!

  • Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my husband, Jon, for 23 years. We have two boys in college – Zach (20 years old) and Austin (18 years old).

  • What was your favorite vacation?
The Dominican Republic with my family and two other families. The staff at the resort had very little and yet they were the happiest people I have ever met. It was truly the most beautiful place I have ever been.
  • What’s your favorite movie and TV show?
My favorite movie is “The Shawshank Redemption”. I previously had not watched much TV, besides sports, but I can’t wait for the next season of “Yellowstone”.
  • What’s on your music playlist?
Everything including pop, rock, classic rock, rap, a little country.
