Cray Kaiser Employee Spotlight: Maribel Gonzalez

In Cray Kaiser’s Employee Spotlight series, we highlight a member of the CK team. We couldn’t be more proud of the team we’ve grown and we’re excited for you to get to know them. This month we’re shining our spotlight on Maribel Gonzalez.

Maribel has been a Senior Tax Accountant at Cray Kaiser for seven tax seasons, with this year being her eighth. She completes payroll returns and specializes in individual tax returns (though she’s no stranger to business returns – big and small). Maribel also helps handle CK’s intern recruiting by attending career fairs, conducting interviews, and providing onboarding and training.

Before joining the CK team, Maribel attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She was an intern with KPMG for the last two years of college and then started working there full-time when she graduated. After three years, Maribel took a sabbatical to care for her mother, travel, and obtain her realtors license. After her sabbatical, Maribel managed an H&R Block office for two years where she had over 30 employees with diverse backgrounds. In 2012, Maribel was ready for a change and found a new home at CK.

Maribel was drawn to CK because of the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects. And that’s exactly what has kept her around for eight years! Maribel’s favorite CK core value is “Trust”. She explains, “As we work with our clients, we become their teammates and trusted advisors to guide them through their different situations.”

When it comes to the future, Maribel wants to continue to grow and develop CK’s recruiting aspect of the firm. She also has a passion for individual taxes and would like to grow and develop the relations with individual tax clients.

  • How do you like to spend your weekends? Bonus question: what do you want to do most when tax season is over?

I love to spend my weekends with my husband and family. In the summer, given my big extended family, there is always a birthday party or something going on. I also love to plan vacations and road trip getaways when tax season is over. This gives me something to look forward to.
  • What motto do you live by?

Work hard, play hard. Yes, I work hard but I also like to enjoy myself. I love going on vacation every chance we get.
  • Tell us about your family.

I come from a BIG family. Both of my parents are the oldest of 14 siblings, which means we are the oldest cousins. I have a great grandmother who turned 103 years old this year. So, we come from good genes! I am the middle child and the first girl in my immediate family. I have two older brothers and two younger sisters. I married my husband on July 3rd, 2015, a date that was purposely selected as my husband could never say he forgot our anniversary as all he has to remember is FIREWORKS for 4th of July. We are expecting our first child this summer.
  • What was your favorite vacation?

My favorite vacation was when I took a Europe trip after I graduated college. I went on a Contiki tour with a friend of mine and we traveled to 11 countries within 9 days.  I would love to go to Europe with my husband, it is a dream we have.
  • What’s on your music playlist?

I listen to Mexican music – Baladas pop, iconic Mexican legend, Vicente Fernandez.  Come Christmas time I listen to all Christmas music. I also like country.
